State Reporting Specialist

The BASIS.ed State Reporting Specialist is responsible for assisting with reporting school data to state and local agencies and communicating compliance requirements between the Compliance and School Management teams. This individual must be experienced in compliance and reporting, with strong legal research skills and technical proficiency with database functionality. Under the supervision of the Director of Compliance, this team member will interact with various internal departments and state agencies and all levels of management in the interest of achieving Compliance department strategic objectives to aid schools in smooth and compliant operations, while embodying BASIS.ed philosophy and its value proposition.

Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinates collection, integration, and formatting of all data required for state reporting to the Arizona Department of Education through Arizona Education Data Standards (AzEDS), Common Logon, ADEConnect, and other relevant state systems
  • Assists with state reporting and data quality responsibilities in other jurisdictions-Texas, Washington, D.C., Louisiana, and any additional locations to which BASIS.ed expands operations
  • Performs data cleaning and helps maintain data quality for state reporting and other compliance reporting functions
  • Responsible for verifying and submitting required state reporting data to ensure BASIS charter schools comply with requirements of applicable federal, state, and local agencies
  • Creates and maintains the Compliance Calendar for requirements related to state reporting, compliance related filings, submissions to state and local agencies, and internal company projects and assignments
  • Monitors legislative bodies, state and local agencies, and authorizers and analyzes new legislation, regulations, and policies and communicates new requirements for awareness and action
  • Reviews, evaluates, and standardizes business practices, including working with Legal and Compliance team members and School Management to evaluate and update associated forms, brochures, presentations, and other written materials
  • Acts as a liaison with the Arizona Department of Education and provides technical assistance and training to school and central office personnel
  • Provides support and training to school leaders and other personnel regarding compliance and state reporting needs
  • Acts as a liaison with auditors and spearheads records and data collection and submissions for the Legal Compliance Questionnaire portion of the annual Arizona State Board for Charter Schools (ASBCS) audit
  • Prepares regular reports for the Director of Compliance
  • Performs other duties as assigned




  • Knowledge of general terminology for compliance and education industries, as well as general knowledge of compliance requirements in public schools
  • General knowledge of school operations, especially related to schedules and attendance
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of effective project management
  • Knowledge and ability to use and run basic database queries and data extraction
  • Knowledge of state reporting requirements and Arizona Department of Education processes
  • Knowledge of student information systems and Arizona Department of Education reporting systems
  • Knowledge of FERPA requirements and how to protect personally identifiable information

Preferred Experience

  • 2+ years of technical writing, analytical, and research experience in a compliance-related capacity
  • 2+ years in education industry
  • 2+ years’ experience with a Governance, Risk, and Compliance system tool
  • Additional preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience with PowerSchool and AzEDS
  • Additional preference will be given to candidates with experience working in compliance-based roles in charter schools
  • Additional preference will be given to candidates with experience assisting with the LCQ portion of the annual ASBCS audit
